Stephen A. Smith Declares WNBA Rookie of the Year Race Is Decided
Stephen A. Smith has made his decision about the WNBA Rookie of the Year race, and according to him, it’s already over.
Throughout the 2024 season, the race has been primarily between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. However, Smith believes that Clark has firmly secured the award.
“There is no debate. I understand that Angel Reese has been dominating with her incredible streak of double-doubles—24 straight, to be exact. She deserves major props for that and will undoubtedly finish second. But Caitlin Clark is going to win Rookie of the Year,” Smith stated on First Take. “Clark is even in the conversation for league MVP, although she won’t win it because A’ja Wilson is in the mix. Still, being in that conversation speaks volumes.”
Clark’s performance has been pivotal in turning around the Indiana Fever’s season, propelling them back into the playoff race after a challenging start. She’s averaging 18.7 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 34% from beyond the arc.
The Fever recently secured a 100-93 victory over the Dallas Wings, improving their record to 17-16 as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday. With four consecutive wins under their belt, the Fever, led by Clark, are riding high into their next matchup.
Tip-off for the game is set for 7 p.m. ET.
