Darryn Peterson will not be joining the Kentucky Wildcats.
On Tuesday, the 5-star guard revealed his final four schools (via Paul Biancardi), and Kentucky did not make the cut. The schools still in contention are the Kansas Jayhawks, Ohio State Buckeyes, Kansas State Wildcats, and USC Trojans.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 195 pounds, Peterson hails from Canton, Ohio. He previously played at Huntington Prep in West Virginia but has since transferred to Prolific Prep in California. As a consensus top-five recruit in the 2025 class, Peterson holds a top-three ranking at 247 Sports, Rivals, and ESPN, with On3 placing him fourth overall.
Kentucky was once considered a major player in Peterson’s recruitment, but the dynamics changed after he signed an NIL deal with Adidas. Since then, Kansas has gained significant traction, with the Ohio State Buckeyes also emerging as strong contenders.
Looking ahead, Mark Pope and his coaching staff are shifting their focus towards securing backcourt talents for the 2025-26 season. Jasper Johnson is set to announce his commitment on Thursday, while Braylon Mullins is scheduled for a visit soon and plans to make his decision in the fall.
