After serving a one-game suspension, running back Trevor Etienne made his much-anticipated debut for the Georgia Bulldogs in their 48-3 victory over Tennessee Tech. The Florida transfer showcased his versatility, rushing for 78 yards on just five carries and adding two receptions for 14 yards, demonstrating his dual-threat potential.
When asked about the impact Etienne brings to Georgia’s ground game, head coach Kirby Smart remained cautious in his assessment, acknowledging that it was difficult to gauge his true significance given the level of competition.

“I don’t think we know that yet,” Smart said. “It’s hard to tell today, right? I wouldn’t judge anything based on this game. We’ve got a really strong stable of backs, and I’m excited about all of them. There’s good leadership, good depth—both young and experienced players. I’ve felt confident about our running backs all year. As for Trevor, I can’t put a definitive measure on his impact today because, honestly, we didn’t face much of a challenge.”
Etienne’s true test will come next week when the Bulldogs hit the road to face Kentucky. Despite the Wildcats’ 31-6 loss to South Carolina, they represent a significantly tougher opponent than Tennessee Tech and are expected to bring their best effort against Georgia.
“It’s never easy up there. Never,” Smart added. “Playing on the road in the SEC is tough, and I don’t know if people really appreciate how difficult it is to win at Kentucky. They’re well-coached, physical, and always have a strong team. We’re going to have to be at our best.”

Quarterback Carson Beck also shared his thoughts on Etienne’s debut, praising the running back’s performance and expressing excitement for what he can bring to the Bulldogs’ offense moving forward.
“I thought he had a great day,” Beck said. “He’s got a lot of talent and is more than capable. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do as the season progresses and how he fits into our system.”
While Etienne’s debut against Tennessee Tech offered a glimpse of his abilities, the real challenge lies ahead. His performance against Kentucky will provide a better indication of just how much of an impact he can have on Georgia’s quest for another national championship.
