Simone Biles was on the edge of her seat during the Chicago Bears’ season opener against the Tennessee Titans, as her husband, Jonathan Owens, delivered a thrilling moment. Owens, a veteran safety in his first season with the Bears, scored a touchdown after recovering a blocked punt in the third quarter. At the time, the Bears were trailing 17-3 and desperately needed a spark, which Owens provided by running the ball back for six points.
Biles, fresh off a remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics, couldn’t contain her excitement. She reacted to the moment on social media, sharing her joy on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK!” She followed up on her Instagram Story, posting, “Touchdown for hubby.”
This marks Owens’ second career touchdown and his first in a Bears uniform. His first touchdown came during a fumble recovery in the Packers’ Thanksgiving win over the Lions last year. Owens, now 29, joined the Bears after signing a two-year deal in the offseason. Prior to that, he spent the 2023 season in Green Bay, where he recorded 84 tackles and a sack. He began his career with the Houston Texans, having gone undrafted in 2018.
It’s been an exciting time for the Biles-Owens household. Biles, who is widely considered one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, had a standout performance at the Paris Olympics, earning four medals: gold in the team and individual all-around, gold in the vault final, and silver in the floor exercise final. Owens was there to support her in Paris and even donned one of her gold medals as a tribute.
The couple, who announced their engagement in early 2022 and got married in the spring of 2023, has enjoyed a whirlwind of achievements in both their athletic careers. Owens’ recent touchdown adds to the excitement, as the Bears went on to secure a 24-17 victory over the Titans in their season opener.
With Biles continuing to dominate in gymnastics and Owens making an impact in the NFL, the power couple is having a year to remember.
