Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese recently confirmed the exact play that led to her season-ending wrist injury, and now, a video of the incident has surfaced online.
On Sunday, September 8, Reese took to Instagram Live to clarify the details of her injury and address the speculations surrounding it. Reese explained that she hurt her right wrist during a Friday game against the Los Angeles Sparks, after falling backward following an and-one play.
While she initially couldn’t recall the exact moment, a closer review of the game’s play-by-play revealed the incident took place in the third quarter with just three minutes remaining. Reese had drawn a foul from Sparks center Li Yueru, completing the basket in the process. In a moment of excitement, she slapped the floor with her right hand after the play.
A video of this pivotal moment shows Reese hyped after the and-one, unaware that the celebration would lead to a significant injury.

Reese shared further details during her Instagram Live, explaining that the fall caused a “small crack” in her wrist bone. While she had the option to avoid surgery, her doctors warned that doing so could lead to arthritis at an early age, or even result in the bone “completely shattering” due to the hairline crack.
“The bone could literally crack and completely shatter,” Reese said, emphasizing the risks of avoiding surgery.
Given the potential long-term consequences, Reese chose to undergo surgery, which is scheduled for Tuesday. Following the procedure, she will wear a cast for six weeks but is expected to return to her regular routine after that recovery period.
The injury has been a tough blow for Reese, but fans and teammates alike have rallied around her, sending well-wishes for a speedy recovery.
