While Week 2 of college football doesn’t always pack the same petty punch as Week 1, it certainly didn’t disappoint this season. Though there’s less offseason hype, there was still plenty of drama—especially with some SEC teams learning that the competition out West is no joke.
Let’s dive into the top petty moments from the weekend, starting with a white-out game that went hilariously wrong in Kentucky.
Eastern Kentucky’s Attempt to Spoil Western Kentucky’s White Out Fizzles
Eastern Kentucky gave it their best shot to replicate Miami’s Week 1 success in Florida, but their attempt to ruin Western Kentucky’s white out fell flat. Unlike Florida, the Hilltoppers went ahead with their white out as planned—and then dismantled their in-state opponent, 31-0.

To add insult to injury, Eastern Kentucky dropped to 0-2 on the season, having been outscored 87-7 in their first two games. Ouch.

Marquise Robinson’s “Domination” Talk Backfires at Oklahoma State
Arkansas defensive back Marquise Robinson had high hopes heading into his return to Stillwater, where he’d previously helped South Alabama pull off a shocking 33-7 win against Oklahoma State in 2023. Leading up to this year’s game, Robinson confidently predicted domination for the Razorbacks.
But Oklahoma State didn’t forget last year’s upset, and they certainly heard Robinson’s bold words. In a game that saw Arkansas blow a 14-point halftime lead, the Cowboys stormed back to win 39-31 in double overtime. To make it even sweeter, Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman made sure to remind Robinson of his ill-fated prediction.

Auburn (and Paul Finebaum) Get a Reality Check from Cal
The California Golden Bears came into Auburn as 10.5-point underdogs and walked out with one of the most satisfying wins of Week 2. Cal’s 21-14 victory over the Tigers wasn’t just impressive because of the scoreline—it was how they did it. The Golden Bears forced five turnovers, outgained Auburn 332 yards to 286, and held the Tigers to just two scores.

But the icing on the cake was seeing SEC pundits, including Paul Finebaum, stunned by the idea that a team like Cal could hang with the big boys of the SEC. Lane Kiffin even joined in on the fun, making the upset all the more delightful.
🤔 @finebaum What are you good at again?? 🤷♂️ https://t.co/nWxms4zK1n

Arizona State, a team picked to finish last in the Big 12, didn’t just beat Mississippi State—they made sure to rub it in afterward. Following their 30-23 victory in Tempe, the Sun Devils rang their victory bell and took a subtle dig at Mississippi State’s cowbells.
Adding to the pettiness was a fun historical nugget: Arizona State’s athletic teams were officially known as the Bulldogs back in the 1920s, long before Mississippi State adopted the same name. Just another reason for ASU to celebrate a sweet win over an SEC foe.
