Arkansas defensive lineman Landon Jackson’s aggressive play against UAB on Saturday drew significant attention, though fortunately, no serious injuries resulted from his actions. There were a few tense moments during the game that had everyone holding their breath.
In the second quarter, a particularly concerning incident occurred when UAB wide receiver Brandon Buckhalter had his helmet knocked off by Razorbacks linebacker Xavian Sorey. As Buckhalter was on the ground, Jackson, who was charging hard, inadvertently collided with his head and neck. The collision led to Buckhalter being transported to Washington Regional Medical Center. Thankfully, media reports later confirmed that he was released and able to travel back with the team after the game, which Arkansas won 37-27.
Later in the game, Jackson’s helmet came off as he was rushing UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno. Although Jackson made contact with Zeno’s head and neck area, this collision did not result in any apparent injuries.
Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman expressed concern about the incidents but admitted he did not have details on the extent of Buckhalter’s injury. “I don’t know what the injury was,” Pittman said. “I don’t know, but I know I have and will continue to pray for the young man. I didn’t talk to Coach after the game about it. I should have, and I did not.”
The silver lining in these events is that, despite the dramatic moments, no serious injuries were reported. The Razorbacks will shift their focus to opening SEC play against Auburn on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m. as confirmed by ESPN.
