Razorbacks quarterback Taylen Green faced challenges in Saturday’s game against UAB. The first-year transfer managed only 11 completions on 26 attempts for 161 yards and an interception in the 37-27 victory.
Early struggles are often best tackled against less formidable opponents, and for Green, this game served as a valuable lesson. He failed to complete a pass until the 14:20 mark of the first half, exhibiting issues with accuracy and timing.
“It was an unusual performance for him,” said Coach Sam Pittman. “It’s something that’s correctable, and I believe Green can fix it. It could be attributed to playing at home for the first time, with all the added pressure and expectations. He might have been trying too hard to make an impression.”
Green’s troubles were evident in his inability to manage the snaps effectively, which nearly cost the Razorbacks crucial points late in the game. Two bobbled snaps in a critical drive led to a sequence of plays that included a 16-yard completion to Andrew Armstrong, followed by a fumble that set up a nine-yard touchdown.
While Green showed some promise with his legs, particularly when he scrambled to create plays, his inconsistency with the snaps and decision-making highlight areas for improvement. As the Razorbacks prepare for their SEC opener against Auburn, Green will need to sharpen his focus and precision.
The Tigers will exploit any vulnerabilities, and Green’s performance will be crucial for Arkansas to secure a win on the road. With both teams showing flaws in their non-conference games, a flawless showing from Green will be necessary to overcome Auburn and maintain momentum.
