Will South Carolina’s quarterback LaNorris Sellers be ready to play against Akron this Saturday?
Sellers suffered an ankle injury during the first half of South Carolina’s recent loss to the LSU Tigers. The injury occurred in the final moments of the first half, forcing Sellers to miss the rest of the game. With Week 4 approaching, the key question is whether Sellers will be available for the Gamecocks’ matchup against Akron.
During his weekly teleconference on Sunday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer reported that Sellers is “okay” and should be fine. Beamer provided minimal details about the injury or Sellers’ recovery, maintaining a cautious approach similar to his post-game comments. However, Sellers himself offered some insight into the situation.
“I think he just rolled up on my ankle,” Sellers explained. “At the moment, it felt pretty painful. At halftime, they took off the tape, examined it, and retaped it. They determined nothing was seriously wrong, so I was good to go.”
Although Sellers attempted to return to the field after the injury, the decision was made for him to stay sidelined for the remainder of the game. Whether he will play against Akron is expected to be a game-time decision. Given that Akron is a less formidable opponent and with a crucial game against Ole Miss on the horizon, there is no need to rush Sellers back into action. Nonetheless, since he felt he could have returned during the second half against LSU, he might be ready to play in Week 4.
