Patrick Pass, a former fullback for the New England Patriots, was arrested on Wednesday in Rhode Island following an alleged altercation with an 82-year-old man at a Planet Fitness gym in North Providence. The incident reportedly occurred in late August when the two men got into an argument over exercise equipment, which escalated into Pass allegedly shoving the elderly man to the floor.
The 82-year-old victim sustained injuries to his back, according to multiple reports, and Pass, 46, now faces serious legal repercussions. Court records show that Pass has been charged with felony assault on a person over 60 years of age resulting in bodily injury, as well as disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. He was released on $10,000 personal recognizance and ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Pass was drafted by the Patriots in 2000, just one round after quarterback Tom Brady, and was a part of three Super Bowl-winning teams during his eight seasons with the franchise. Known for his versatility as a fullback, Pass accumulated 526 rushing yards and three touchdowns over his career, with his best season coming in 2005 when he rushed for 245 yards and caught for 227 more.
After leaving the Patriots, Pass had a brief stint with the New York Giants in 2007, playing in one regular-season game for the team that later defeated his former Patriots squad in Super Bowl XLII.
Pass’s post-NFL career has not been without controversy. In 2023, he was suspended indefinitely from his role as a coach with the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League after players were involved in a brawl with fans during a game against the Arizona Rattlers. Despite the incident, Pass remains listed as the Pirates’ Director of Football Personnel Development.
Pass is expected to make his next court appearance in January 2024, where he will face the charges stemming from the alleged assault.
