The Kansas City Chiefs remain one of the five undefeated teams as the 2024 NFL season enters Week 4, continuing their tradition of winning close games. While the Chiefs’ 3-0 record hasn’t come without its challenges, they’ve proven to be masters of clutch performances, whether through Patrick Mahomes’ game-winning drives or a timely defensive stand.
Legendary quarterback-turned-analyst Tom Brady, now with Fox Sports, understands the grit required to consistently pull out tough wins. In his Week 4 power rankings, Brady placed the Chiefs at the top, recognizing their ability to grind out victories and maintain their status as a top contender.
🚨POWER RANKINGS🚨 @TomBrady's Top 5 Teams going into Week 4!
1. @Chiefs
2. @BuffaloBills
3. @Vikings
4. @Seahawks
5. @HoustonTexans pic.twitter.com/ygkKKKxGYC— FOX Sports: NFL (@NFLonFOX) September 26, 2024
While NFL power rankings are often subjective, Brady’s take is logical. The Chiefs and Buffalo Bills have emerged as the clear top two teams, and either could reasonably claim the No. 1 spot. In comparison, A to Z Sports’ Wes Roesch also has Kansas City and Buffalo as the frontrunners, breaking down which teams are real contenders and which are pretenders.
Interestingly, Brady’s rankings also highlight the resurgence of teams like the Minnesota Vikings, whose defense has been among the league’s best, and Sam Darnold, who leads the NFL in touchdown passes. The Seattle Seahawks are also getting recognition for their solid defense and strong performance by quarterback Geno Smith, who ranks third in passing yards.
Brady rounds out his top five with the Houston Texans, despite their blowout loss to the Vikings in Week 3. The Texans are still seen as a formidable team, even surpassing the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers in Brady’s eyes. Though Pittsburgh’s defense has been stellar, the overall strength of Houston makes them a better long-term bet, according to Brady.
As for the Chiefs, their odds of advancing to 4-0 look promising as they prepare to face a banged-up Los Angeles Chargers team on Sunday. After that, Kansas City will host the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football before heading to San Francisco for a highly anticipated Super Bowl LVIII rematch against the 49ers.
While nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, Kansas City’s current form and their ability to win close games suggest they’re in prime position to stay at the top of Brady’s power rankings as the season progresses.
