There’s a saying in sports that at every baseball game, you’ll probably witness something you’ve never seen before. Well, after the unique start to the Oklahoma Sooners’ matchup against the Auburn Tigers on Saturday, that saying might need to apply to college football as well.
Just before kickoff, an Auburn cheerleader was performing a routine set of backflips across the field. In an unexpected twist, the cheerleader inadvertently collided with a player from the Oklahoma football team, who was in the middle of warming up. The incident occurred while the cheerleader was mid-flip, resulting in a direct hit on one of the Sooners players.
The surprising collision was caught on video (H/T @dBriceJ), and if you focus on the lower right corner of the clip, you can clearly see the moment of impact.

It’s safe to say that most fans, coaches, and players probably hadn’t seen anything like this happen in a football game before. Fortunately, neither the cheerleader nor the player appeared to be seriously hurt. However, it’s likely that both will be paying closer attention to their surroundings during future pre-game activities.
This unusual incident adds to the charm and unpredictability that makes college football such an entertaining spectacle.
