The injury woes continue for the Buffalo Bills, who suffered yet another setback on defense during their Week 4 road matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football. Starting safety Taylor Rapp left the game with a head injury after making a tackle on running back Derrick Henry early in the second quarter.
With 10 minutes remaining in the half, Henry ran to the left, and Rapp came up to make the stop about five yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Unfortunately, as he tackled Henry, Rapp appeared to collide with the running back’s lower body, hitting his head in the process.
Rapp was down on the turf at M&T Bank Stadium for several moments before managing to walk off to the sideline. He was evaluated for a head injury, spending time in the blue medical tent before ultimately heading into the locker room. By the start of the third quarter, the Bills officially ruled him out due to a concussion.
Rapp’s injury marks the fourth defensive starter the Bills have lost this season. All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano is sidelined until December with a torn pectoral tendon, while linebacker Terrel Bernard and nickel cornerback Taron Johnson are also expected to be out for several weeks.
The Ravens took full advantage of the Bills’ depleted defense in the first half, averaging an impressive 10.4 yards per play and taking a commanding 21–3 lead into halftime.
Rapp was re-signed by the Bills after playing all 16 regular-season games in 2023, having joined the team as a free agent from the Los Angeles Rams.
In addition to Rapp’s injury, starting center Connor McGovern also faced a health scare during the game. He was evaluated for a concussion in the first quarter after being briefly taken off the field by an independent neurologist. Although he appeared to be cleared to return, a miscommunication involving the officiating crew delayed his return to the game for a few extra snaps before he ultimately rejoined his teammates.
As the Bills deal with these mounting injuries, they will need to rally together and adapt as they prepare for their upcoming games. The resilience of the remaining players will be put to the test as they navigate through this challenging stretch of the season.
