WNBA fans have been buzzing about two of the most impactful rookies in league history: Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. Both had standout seasons in 2024, making headlines with their record-breaking performances.
Clark, the No. 1 overall pick out of Iowa, led the Indiana Fever to their first playoff appearance since 2016. Along the way, she shattered numerous records, including most assists in a single season and the most points ever scored by a WNBA rookie. Her ability to elevate her team has made her a force in the league right out of the gate.
On the other hand, Reese, the No. 7 pick out of LSU, also made waves during her rookie season with the Chicago Sky. She broke the WNBA record for most rebounds in a season, a feat later eclipsed by A’ja Wilson, and achieved the longest streak of double-doubles by a rookie. Her physicality and presence on the court helped establish her as one of the top rebounders in the league.
Amid the ongoing WNBA Finals between the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx, Liberty star and two-time MVP Breanna Stewart was asked to choose between the two rising stars in an interview with MARCA. For Stewart, the choice wasn’t about picking sides but rather recognizing the remarkable talents both players brought to the league.
“I mean, it’s not an either-or with Angel or Caitlin,” Stewart said. “They both came into the league this year and did great things. Angel being atop the rebound leaders for the entire season. Caitlin, the assists.”
Stewart also highlighted how Clark and Reese have impacted the league beyond just their on-court performances. “And not only their impact on the court but also the presence that they have off,” she added. “The fans that they are continuing to bring in. It’s been exciting to see, and I know they are only going to continue to grow.”

As the WNBA Finals heat up, Stewart and her Liberty team are preparing for Game 2 against the Minnesota Lynx, set for Sunday, Sept. 13. After a tough 95-93 loss in Game 1, the Liberty will be looking to even the series and keep their championship hopes alive.
Clark and Reese, meanwhile, continue to shape the future of the league, both with their performances and the ever-growing fanbase they’ve helped build. Their rivalry, much like their talent, promises to be one of the cornerstones of the WNBA for years to come.
