By now, the football world knows that the Oregon Ducks pulled off a thrilling 32-31 victory over Ohio State. The win, one of the biggest regular-season triumphs in college football this year, launched Oregon into the national championship conversation. Rising to the occasion in this monumental game was Evan Stewart, a transfer portal addition who had entered the season with high expectations.
Stewart, who came to Oregon with a reputation for speed, ball-tracking ability, and elite body control, had a slow start to the season. However, he picked the perfect moment to deliver his breakout performance against one of the toughest defenses in the country. Against Ohio State, Stewart had his best game yet, finishing with seven receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown, making him the only receiver this season to surpass 100 receiving yards against the Buckeyes.

Head coach Dan Lanning praised Stewart’s patience and readiness following the game. “I’m proud of him, man, and maybe even more proud of how he handled himself before this moment,” Lanning said. “There were opportunities earlier in the season where the ball didn’t come his way, and Evan never complained. He trusted that his moment would come, and tonight, he seized it. He was a real weapon for us, and I’m really proud of that performance.”
Stewart was the driving force in Oregon’s passing attack, showcasing his ability to step up in big games. Targeted six times on throws of 10+ yards, he caught five of them for 137 of his 149 total receiving yards, including a game-changing 69-yard reception. He proved to be a reliable deep threat and a red zone target, demonstrating why he was so highly regarded upon arriving in Eugene.
Oregon’s offense, already powered by a strong ground game led by running back Jordan James, now boasts a dynamic receiving corps that can dominate through the air. Stewart’s standout showing against Ohio State indicates that the Ducks have a formidable offense as they continue their first season in the Big Ten Conference. His performance in this marquee matchup signals great things to come for Oregon and its championship aspirations.
