On Friday night, the Kentucky Wildcats hosted their annual Blue-White scrimmage, marking a unique event this year. With new head coach Mark Pope at the helm, the scrimmage was not televised and served as a fundraiser for the team’s NIL initiative, Club Blue. Fans who attended enjoyed special VIP experiences based on their ticket package.
Three players emerged as standout performers during the game:
1. Collin Chandler
The most surprising standout of the night was Collin Chandler. Although there has been optimism about his long-term potential, Chandler proved he might contribute sooner than expected. Playing for the White team, he delivered an impressive performance, scoring 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Chandler displayed his ability to score at all levels. Having returned from a Mormon mission, his performance suggests he could have a major impact this season.
2. Andrew Carr
Andrew Carr was the most dominant player on Friday night. A great fit for Coach Pope’s offensive system, the 6’11” forward showcased his efficiency and versatility. Carr led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. His size and skill set make him a challenging matchup for opposing defenses. He also contributed by occasionally bringing the ball up the floor, demonstrating his mobility. Carr is expected to be one of Kentucky’s top scorers this season.
3. Otega Oweh
Otega Oweh lived up to his reputation as a defensive standout while also contributing on offense. Nicknamed “Tegatron,” Oweh brought infectious energy, scoring 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out four assists, and recording three steals. His defensive presence and hustle will make him a valuable spark off the bench when not starting.
Overall, the scrimmage highlighted Kentucky’s balanced play on both ends of the floor, but it was the fast-paced offense and fluid ball movement that had fans excited. With shooters across the lineup, this season’s Wildcats will be an exciting team to watch.
