Tennessee Triumphs Over Alabama in Late-Game Comeback
The Tennessee Volunteers secured a thrilling 24-17 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, with a late touchdown pass from Nico Iamaleava sealing the win.
This marks Tennessee’s second consecutive win over Alabama at Neyland Stadium. Despite a rough first half, the Vols rebounded with a much stronger second half.
Tennessee’s early struggles mirrored those of a previous game against Florida, as they fumbled on their first drive, threw two interceptions, and missed two field goals. Alabama also had its difficulties but managed to score a touchdown on a five-yard pass to Ryan Williams after an earlier attempt was intercepted.
Although Alabama led 7-0 at halftime, Tennessee stormed back in the third quarter, thanks to two rushing touchdowns from Dylan Sampson. The Crimson Tide added a field goal, leaving Tennessee up 14-10 entering the fourth quarter.
Alabama responded early in the fourth with a long pass to Germie Bernard and a rushing touchdown by Justice Haynes, taking a 17-14 lead. However, Tennessee answered with a touchdown pass from Iamaleava to Chris Brazzell, giving them a 21-17 lead with six minutes left.
Tennessee’s defense forced a key three-and-out, and though they had to punt, they held strong again. Alabama, facing a critical 4th and 22 after a penalty, couldn’t convert. Tennessee then intercepted a pass, courtesy of Will Brooks, securing the win as the celebratory cigar smoke filled the Knoxville night.
