The Pittsburgh Steelers have opened the 21-day practice window for linebacker Tyler Matakevich, signaling his potential return to the field. Though he will remain on the reserve/injured list for now, the team has until the end of this period to activate him. If not, Matakevich will miss the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old linebacker suffered a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos and has been on injured reserve since. Prior to his injury, Matakevich played 36 special teams snaps over Pittsburgh’s first two games, recording two tackles.
Matakevich, a seventh-round pick by the Steelers in 2016, spent four seasons with the team before joining the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2023. During his time with Buffalo, he logged 55 total tackles and an interception over 66 games, while contributing to the team’s playoff runs. He returned to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal in July, and his potential return would be a boost for the Steelers’ special teams unit, where he has long been a key contributor.
