The Bears believe their recent game against the Colts was a turning point for their offense, but they see a real test coming this Sunday against Washington’s strong defense.
After their Week 3 loss to the Colts, Bears players met with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and the coaching staff to discuss changes. The players had asked for tougher coaching to iron out the details in their offensive plays, which they credit for reducing presnap penalties and other mistakes.
In these meetings, the team discussed play-calling adjustments that better reflected what was working on the field, which they say helped bring more balance to their offense. A stronger running game also contributed to this balance. These productive conversations became a regular part of their preparation process, allowing the players to give feedback and fine-tune their approach.
Wide receiver Jamaal Williams shared, “We had multiple meetings where we would sit down and talk about things that were working for us, things I liked, things I didn’t. If we’re consistently gaining 4 to 5 yards a run, we should keep feeding the ball. It’s about staying in that rhythm.”
The coaching staff has emphasized the importance of veteran leadership from players like Marcedes Lewis and DJ Moore. The coaches have adapted, listening to the players’ input and working with them to improve execution in both practices and walk-throughs.
Adjustments also included refining early play calls, which helped players feel more prepared at the start of the game.
The Bears see this upcoming matchup with the Commanders as an opportunity to validate these adjustments and demonstrate the offense’s growth.
