Giants cornerback Deonte Banks has faced criticism recently for his inconsistent effort during games but has now promised to prevent any future lapses. After being called out by teammates and coaches, Banks admitted he needs to show more intensity, telling reporters, “It won’t ever happen again.”
Banks’ teammates and coaches, including defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II and defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, emphasized the team’s expectation for players to give full effort every snap. Banks acknowledged his struggles adapting to a new defensive system this season, where he’s been playing less man coverage than before, leading to challenges in coverage and four touchdowns allowed.
Following an incident against the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb, Banks approached his teammates to apologize and took responsibility. Although he limited Seahawks’ receiver DK Metcalf to one catch the next week, his performance slipped again in recent games, raising concerns.
Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that Banks won’t be benched, partly due to other cornerbacks—Adoree Jackson, Cor’Dale Flott, and Tre Hawkins III—being questionable due to injuries. Defensive coordinator Bowen added that while a benching is always an option, the coaching staff aims to guide players to avoid repeated mistakes and improve their performance.
