Giants quarterback Daniel Jones continues to slide in the CBS Sports QB Power Rankings, now landing at No. 29 out of 32 for the 2024 season. Despite some talent on the roster, the Giants have struggled to get strong production from Jones, who has repeatedly failed to deliver in critical moments.
In the recent game against Pittsburgh, Jones faced one of the league’s top defenses and was under heavy pressure. However, he finished the night with a disappointing performance, completing 24 of 38 passes without a touchdown and throwing one interception in the Giants’ 26-18 loss. Late in the game, Jones missed key plays, including a strip-sack/fumble caused by T.J. Watt and a poor interception aimed at Devin Singletary, missing an open receiver downfield.
With the Giants sitting at the bottom of the NFC East midway through the season, frustrations are rising among fans and within the organization. While the team has solid foundational pieces, the offense ranks 27th overall and continues to struggle in the red zone. These issues have led to calls for the Giants to consider benching Jones in favor of backup quarterbacks Drew Lock or Tommy Devito, who could bring fresh energy to the team.
Jones, who signed a $160 million extension in 2023, has yet to perform at a level that reflects his contract, leaving the Giants in a difficult position. Although they still have a shot at a wild card if they turn things around, continuing to lose could improve their draft standing for future rebuilding.
The Giants may benefit from benching Jones to protect his $23 million injury guarantee, while injecting new momentum into their young roster. Last season, Tommy Devito stepped up when Jones and veteran Tyrod Taylor were injured, passing for 1,010 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions, helping the offense find more success.
Head coach Brian Daboll, however, remains committed to Jones as the starter for now. Still, with the team underperforming, it’s uncertain how long Daboll will continue with Jones if the losses keep piling up, especially given the overall talent on the Giants’ roster.
