UNC Head Coach Mack Brown finally broke his 11-game losing streak against Florida State with a commanding 35-11 win in Tallahassee. This victory marked Brown’s first-ever win over the Seminoles, having previously gone 0-11 against them during his time at North Carolina and Tulane.
After the game, Brown shared his thoughts, expressing a mix of relief and humility. He noted that the victory was a team achievement rather than a personal one. “I’m embarrassed I never won before. It’s kind of embarrassing,” Brown said. Reflecting on receiving the game ball, he humorously mentioned how rare it felt after so many losses, adding that when he previously coached, Florida State was so dominant they were like an “NFL East” team.
Brown also spoke about his close friendship with former FSU head coach Bobby Bowden, who built Florida State’s football dynasty. Brown recalled facing Bowden’s powerhouse teams nine times, between his stints at Tulane and UNC. He imagined his old friend smiling down on him, knowing their bond went beyond the rivalry. “Coach Bowden was a dear friend,” Brown said. “I think he’s in heaven tonight with a smile on his face. Even though Florida State lost, he knows I love him and this place.”
Florida State will look to bounce back from their rough season when they face Notre Dame on November 9.
