The Tennessee Volunteers are preparing for Saturday night’s matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Knoxville, but it looks like they’ll be missing multiple key players.
Backup running back DeSean Bishop, who sustained an injury during Tennessee’s recent 28-18 win over Kentucky, has already been ruled out. Now, it appears junior defensive lineman Tyre West is also in jeopardy of missing the game. Tennessee’s updated SEC injury report on Thursday downgraded West from “questionable” to “doubtful.”

West has been a consistent force on Tennessee’s defensive line, making his third consecutive start in the win against Kentucky. This season, he’s posted 12 tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks. He logged 15 snaps against Kentucky, 28 against Alabama, and 22 in the Vols’ victory over Florida, showcasing his importance to Tennessee’s defensive front.
Though Tennessee has strong depth along the defensive line, West’s potential absence does impact that strength, especially as the Vols aim to maintain their defensive momentum. Tennessee will look to compensate for his absence but is hopeful that West will recover in time for their crucial upcoming game against the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
