The Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball team put on an impressive show as they secured a dominant 95-51 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers, moving to 2-0 in the young season. Fueled by a powerful performance from Raegan Beers, Oklahoma’s offense and rebounding set the tone for an overwhelming win that reflected the team’s potential this season.
Raegan Beers was the star of the game, achieving a milestone of 1,000 career points with a spectacular 26-point, 14-rebound double-double. This scoring output matched her career high, previously set against Prairie View A&M in 2022 when she played for Oregon State. Beers’ 26-point game underscored her ability to dominate in the paint and continue her impact with Oklahoma. Impressively, she also became the first Sooner to record a double-double in the first half of a game since 2015, when Kaylon Williams achieved the feat.
Oklahoma’s strong team effort was evident throughout the game. Skylar Vann contributed significantly with eight points and ten rebounds, nearly reaching a double-double herself. Sahara Williams added 14 points, along with four rebounds and three steals, showcasing her defensive prowess. Payton Verhulst was also efficient, scoring 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, further boosting Oklahoma’s offense.
The Sooners’ rebounding was particularly impressive, as they outrebounded Virginia 66-39. This 66-rebound mark was the highest for Oklahoma since 2005. Additionally, Oklahoma scored a remarkable 66 points in the paint, a record for the Sooners under head coach Jennie Baranczyk.
With this convincing win, Oklahoma’s early season momentum continues, and the Sooners will look to maintain their winning streak as they prepare to face Western Carolina on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The upcoming game, known as the program’s annual Field Trip Day, will be played at 10:30 a.m. CT, giving Oklahoma fans a chance to see if the Sooners can keep up their dominant play.
