The Kansas City Chiefs may soon see the return of some key players that could provide the spark they need. After a gritty Week 10 victory over the Denver Broncos, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave an optimistic update on the injury status of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, running back Isiah Pacheco, and defensive end Charles Omenihu.
On Monday, Reid confirmed the Chiefs emerged from their battle with the Broncos relatively injury-free. “I don’t really have any injuries for you,” Reid said, noting that there were no new, significant concerns after the game.
The biggest update, however, was about the trio of previously injured players. Reid hinted at the impending returns of Smith-Schuster, Pacheco, and Omenihu. “They’re all close,” Reid explained. “JuJu is closer than the other two, and we might see them at practice this week.”
Smith-Schuster has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since Week 7, but Reid’s update suggests the wideout may participate in limited practice on Wednesday, setting the stage for a possible Week 11 return against the Buffalo Bills. Smith-Schuster’s potential return would be a boost for Kansas City’s passing game, providing Mahomes with another reliable target.
Isiah Pacheco, meanwhile, is edging closer to recovery after fracturing his fibula in Week 2. The Chiefs could activate his 21-day practice window soon, though he may need additional time before being game-ready. If Pacheco is back in action in the coming weeks, his return would rejuvenate Kansas City’s ground game with fresh legs.
On defense, Omenihu is nearing his comeback from the Reserve/PUP list after an ACL injury. He’s been eyeing a Week 12 return, and his addition could strengthen Kansas City’s pass rush. The defensive end recorded seven sacks last season and could bolster the Chiefs’ front against high-powered offenses as they push toward the playoffs.
The Chiefs face a crucial Week 11 matchup against the Bills, and having any of these players available could be game-changing. Their returns would not only impact the field but could also lift the team’s morale as they navigate the second half of the season.
