As the Georgia Bulldogs prepare for a crucial SEC matchup against Tennessee, head coach Kirby Smart gave an update on wide receiver Colbie Young’s situation following his October arrest. Though Young’s ex-girlfriend has requested that charges be dropped, Smart emphasized that the legal process must proceed before any decisions about Young’s return can be made.
“The legal process has got to play itself out,” Smart explained. “We want to support Colbie where we can, so he still has access to our facilities and support resources—academic, mental health, training, weight room—but we have to let the process run its course before any further actions.”
Young was arrested on October 8 on misdemeanor charges related to assault on an unborn child and battery. His first court appearance is scheduled for December 10, which could determine his availability for the season’s remainder. The senior transfer from Miami has made an impact in five games this season, recording 11 receptions for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Young’s potential return could be a significant boost for Georgia, who lacks a true star wide receiver this season. In the meantime, he is reportedly working with a trainer and focusing on mental health support as he awaits resolution.
With Young’s legal issues still pending, Smart and the Bulldogs are taking a cautious approach. They’ll head into the Tennessee game hoping to maintain momentum without Young, whose eventual return could enhance their offense in critical late-season matchups.
