Georgia football has the opportunity to tie an SEC record with a win over Georgia Tech.
The game against Georgia Tech is crucial for multiple reasons. A victory would likely secure Georgia’s spot in the College Football Playoff and keep their momentum heading into the SEC Championship game next weekend.
Additionally, a win would extend Georgia’s winning streak over the Yellow Jackets to seven games, just one short of Georgia Tech’s own record of eight consecutive victories from 1949-1956.
However, there’s another significant record Georgia could tie with a win on Friday night.
Most Consecutive Wins in SEC History
Currently, Georgia has won 30 straight home games, which ties them with Florida for the second-longest home win streak in SEC history, just one behind Alabama’s 31-game streak from 2015 to 2019. A win over Georgia Tech would match this record and leave Georgia just one victory away from holding the record outright.
Georgia could even break this record later this season. If they win the SEC Championship next weekend, they will secure a top-four spot in the College Football Playoff and a first-round bye. However, if they lose, there’s still a chance Georgia could host a first-round playoff game at Sanford Stadium, which would be a strong consolation prize.
If Georgia doesn’t have the opportunity to break this record this season, they are likely to do so next year. Their 2025 season opener is at home against Marshall, a game that is expected to be an easy win for the Bulldogs. Given this, it would be beneficial for Georgia to focus on beating Georgia Tech, winning the SEC Championship, and then setting their sights on this record at the start of next season.
