Since their loss to Ole Miss a few weeks ago, the committee has shown little respect for the Bulldogs. Despite falling to a ranked Ole Miss team on the road, Georgia dropped drastically from No. 3 to No. 12 in the rankings. Slowly but steadily, they’ve climbed back up, reaching No. 7 this week. However, their rise wasn’t due to newfound respect—it happened only because higher-ranked teams ahead of them lost.
Heading into conference championship weekend, the committee has no choice but to take Georgia seriously.
Georgia Deserves to Reclaim a Top 5 Spot
Georgia’s performance against Georgia Tech on Friday, while not groundbreaking, showcased the team’s resilience. Their come-from-behind win displayed championship qualities, even if it was against an average ACC opponent. The game highlighted areas where the Bulldogs still need improvement, but they never should have fallen so far in the first place.
More importantly, the weekend’s chaos helped pave the way for Georgia to rise. No. 6 Miami suffered a shocking 42-38 loss to unranked Syracuse, and No. 2 Ohio State fell at home in a stunning 13-10 defeat to a six-win Michigan team. These losses clear the path for Georgia to rightfully move back into the top five.
Whether the committee will finally give Georgia the respect they deserve remains uncertain, especially given the unpredictable decisions this year. However, one thing is clear: Georgia has earned their spot, and it’s time for the CFP committee to recognize it.
