Arkansas didn’t take the lead until just 1:47 remained in the game, but the Razorbacks rallied from an 8-point halftime deficit to secure a dramatic win. For much of the game, it seemed like Arkansas might never overtake Miami. Similar to their matchup with Illinois on Thanksgiving, the Hurricanes seemed to have an answer for everything the Razorbacks threw at them.
The turning point came in the final 20 minutes when Arkansas found its rhythm from beyond the arc. The Razorbacks hit 8-of-14 three-pointers in the second half, including three of their last four shots. The go-ahead bucket was also a clutch three-pointer from Boogie Fland, sealing the comeback.
One challenge for Arkansas was the lack of fast-break opportunities, a strength they’ve relied on all season. Despite forcing seven steals compared to Miami’s three, the Razorbacks were outscored 11-9 in fast-break points, limiting their usual explosiveness.
Miami’s defense also effectively contained Arkansas’s leading scorer, Adou Thiero, holding him under double digits for only the second time this season.
This win contributes to the SEC’s dominance in the ACC/SEC Challenge, with the conference leading by five games. Meanwhile, Kentucky and Clemson were battling in South Carolina. With the SEC shaping up to be one of the toughest leagues this season, Arkansas faces a challenging road ahead.
Next, the Razorbacks take on Michigan, one of the few remaining games to fine-tune their play before conference action begins. Their SEC opener will be a tough test against Tennessee, who recently crushed Syracuse 96-70 in the challenge.
