Georgia football was able to hold onto its commitment from 4-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery, despite a strong late push from Florida.
National Signing Day is always full of surprises, and Georgia wasn’t exempt from the drama. Montgomery, who had been committed to Georgia for quite some time, seemed firmly locked in with the Bulldogs. However, that stability was shaken on Tuesday night when reports surfaced that Florida was making a serious effort to flip him. Montgomery appeared to be considering the Gators’ offer.
Ranked as the No. 108 player overall in the 2025 class, No. 12 QB, and No. 5 prospect from Ohio, Montgomery’s potential departure would have been a significant blow for Georgia. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, head coach Kirby Smart stepped in quickly, keeping Montgomery focused on Georgia. By Wednesday morning, Montgomery reaffirmed his commitment, and a few hours later, he officially signed with the Bulldogs.
Losing Montgomery to Florida would have been especially painful, as the Gators are Georgia’s biggest rival. Fortunately, this near miss ended in favor of the Bulldogs, adding another elite quarterback to their roster. While Georgia fans have seen plenty of success over Florida on the field, this victory on the recruiting trail was equally satisfying.
While Georgia did experience some setbacks on Signing Day, including losing a recruit to Florida State, the successful retention of Montgomery was a significant win, especially given Florida’s late attempt to poach him.
