After securing 25 high school recruits during the early signing period, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff are now focusing on addressing team needs via the transfer portal. One area in need of attention is linebacker, as the Tigers must replace key players like Eugene Asante, Dorian Mausi, and Austin Keys. Phoenix Jackson, a linebacker formerly with Fresno State, could be a potential addition to the squad. Jackson, who has one season of eligibility remaining, is exploring opportunities to play elsewhere following a successful four-year career at Fresno State.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, Auburn has shown interest in Jackson, and he has scheduled an official visit to the school for Dec. 13 and 14. Jackson will also visit Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State later this month. During his time at Fresno State, Jackson totaled 101 tackles, five sacks, and three interceptions. His standout season came in 2024, when he recorded 49 tackles and four sacks. He excelled in pass coverage, receiving a 90.3 grade from Pro Football Focus, allowing just 19 catches in 23 targets, without surrendering a touchdown.
The winter transfer portal opens on Dec. 9 and will close on Dec. 28.
