In one of the most jaw-dropping comebacks of the season, Kentucky stunned No. 7 Gonzaga 90-89 in overtime, overcoming an 18-point deficit. The Wildcats looked out of sorts in the first half, struggling defensively and facing a commanding 16-point halftime deficit. But the story changed dramatically in the second half, thanks to two of Kentucky’s standout players: Andrew Carr and Jaxson Robinson.
Carr, a transfer from Wake Forest, played a pivotal role in the comeback, scoring a team-high 19 points, along with seven rebounds and three assists. His offensive surge helped Kentucky close the gap, with Carr contributing 11 points after the break. The Wildcats were a plus-16 with him on the floor in the second half, and his inside presence helped Kentucky dominate the paint, winning that battle 48-44.
With starting point guard Kerr Kriisa sidelined by a calf injury, Robinson was called upon to step up, and he did so in remarkable fashion. The 2024 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year filled in at point guard and delivered an electrifying performance, finishing with 18 points, five assists, and zero turnovers in 36 minutes. Robinson’s clutch shooting, including 13 second-half points on 5-of-6 shooting, fueled Kentucky’s comeback and helped them outscore Gonzaga by 15 in the second half.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of Carr and Robinson, Kentucky overcame their first-half struggles and pulled off an improbable win. Their performances will go down in Wildcats history as one of the most memorable comebacks ever, proving that anything can happen in college basketball!
