As the NCAA Transfer Portal opens tomorrow, Auburn football is gearing up to address several key positions of need for the upcoming season. Head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff are already preparing for the influx of transfers, despite still processing the current season. Nine Auburn players have already announced their intention to enter the portal, and more are expected in the coming days.
The first and most pressing need for the Tigers is at quarterback. With Payton Thorne out of eligibility and Holden Geriner hitting the portal, Auburn will look to add a transfer QB, along with incoming freshman Deuce Knight. Freeze has emphasized the importance of finding “the right fit” for the program in the quarterback position, as Auburn aims to strengthen its roster.
In addition to quarterback, Auburn will need to focus on bolstering its offensive line. Despite strong recruiting efforts, the offensive line remains a challenge for the Tigers, and they may need to replace multiple starters ahead of the 2025 season.
Lastly, Auburn may look to add an experienced tight end to its roster. With key contributors like Rivaldo Fairweather and Luke Deal out of eligibility, and Micah Riley entering the portal, Auburn will need depth at the position. Although two true freshman tight ends are set to join the team, a transfer could help fill the gap left by the departing players, especially with Fairweather’s significant role as a pass catcher in recent seasons.
