Alabama’s 2024 season ended on a sour note, missing the 12-team College Football Playoff by just one spot. Despite falling short of expectations in Kalen DeBoer’s first year as head coach, the Crimson Tide showed promising signs for the future. With a stellar 2025 recruiting class ranked second nationally, Alabama is poised to return to championship contention next season.
In the coming weeks, decisions from key players about entering the NFL Draft, returning for another season, or transferring will significantly shape the 2025 roster. Four draft-eligible players, in particular, face pivotal choices that will impact the Crimson Tide’s outlook for next year. This list doesn’t include underclassmen like Ryan Williams or likely draft-bound stars such as quarterback Jalen Milroe and linebacker Jihaad Campbell, both projected as first-round picks.
The players below were all major contributors in 2024, and while they could benefit from another season to boost their draft stock, their departures would create key positional needs for Alabama to address, potentially through the transfer portal.
4. Domani Jackson
Junior cornerback Domani Jackson transferred to Alabama in the offseason, shortly before Nick Saban’s retirement. The former 5-star recruit made an immediate impact, recording 48 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 7 pass breakups while locking down his side of the field.
Though currently graded as a mid-round prospect, Jackson’s athleticism and frame could make him a late riser after the NFL Combine. If he leaves, Alabama’s young talent at cornerback—including Zabien Brown, Jaylen Mbakwe, and Zay Mincey—would need to step up. However, Jackson’s return would provide stability and veteran leadership to the secondary.
3. Tim Keenan III
Redshirt junior defensive tackle Tim Keenan III has been a force on the defensive line, amassing 74 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks over the last two seasons. He is a dominant run-stopper and disruptor in the backfield.
With Tim Smith graduating and LT Overton projected as a first-round pick, Alabama’s defensive line could lose key contributors. Keenan’s return in 2025 would solidify the unit and provide much-needed leadership.
2. Parker Brailsford
Redshirt sophomore center Parker Brailsford was a dependable starter on Alabama’s offensive line in 2024. While the line struggled at times, Brailsford stood out after transferring from Washington.
With junior guard and All-American Tyler Booker likely headed to the draft, Brailsford’s return would be crucial for maintaining continuity in the interior line. If he departs, Alabama might turn to veteran Geno VanDeMark to fill the void at center.
1. Deontae Lawson
Redshirt junior linebacker Deontae Lawson has been the heart of Alabama’s defense. As the unit’s signal-caller, Lawson’s leadership and playmaking abilities were instrumental before a season-ending injury against Oklahoma. He finished the year with 76 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, an interception, and two forced turnovers.
Despite receiving mid-round draft projections, Lawson’s injury and recovery timeline could influence his decision. With Jihaad Campbell likely entering the draft and Justin Jefferson graduating, Lawson’s return would be critical for Alabama’s defense in 2025, providing stability and experience.
Each of these decisions will play a major role in shaping the Crimson Tide’s roster and championship aspirations next season.
