Gunner Stockton’s teammates have shown immense confidence in him stepping in for the injured Carson Beck.
When Carson Beck couldn’t finish the SEC Championship game against Texas, Georgia fans were understandably anxious. However, backup QB Gunner Stockton stepped in and performed admirably, helping lead Georgia to a 22-19 overtime victory. Despite his solid performance, many still hoped Beck’s injury wasn’t severe, allowing him to return for the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, Beck’s right elbow injury is serious, and Stockton is now set to take over as the starting quarterback.
While fans may be uncertain about Stockton’s ability to lead Georgia moving forward, his teammates have no such concerns.
Tate Ratledge praised Stockton’s performance, saying, “Gunner did a great job stepping up like he had to… it made everybody realize this is a new juice we got to come out in the second half with.”
Trevor Etienne also spoke highly of Stockton, noting his confidence and preparation: “Just how confident he was… he takes advantage of the opportunities he gets, and that speaks volumes about him.”
As leaders on the team, Ratledge and Etienne’s confidence in Stockton is a strong indicator that the rest of the squad will feel the same. With over three weeks until the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, Georgia has ample time to ensure Stockton is fully prepared to lead the team into the College Football Playoff.
