Georgia football’s favorable College Football Playoff (CFP) draw continues with all potential games conveniently close to Athens.
After securing the 2-seed with a thrilling SEC Championship victory over Texas, Georgia has earned a first-round bye. This means the Bulldogs need just three wins to claim the National Championship, with their full playoff schedule now locked in:
- Quarterfinals: Sugar Bowl, Jan. 1 in New Orleans, LA
- Semifinals: Cotton Bowl, Jan. 10 in Arlington, TX
- National Championship: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Jan. 20 in Atlanta, GA
This schedule is highly favorable for Georgia. Not only does the team benefit from a three-week break to recover and prepare, but all potential games are geographically close to Athens, making travel manageable for both the team and their fans.
Georgia’s Path and Potential Opponents
In the quarterfinals, Georgia will face the winner of the Dec. 20 matchup between 7-seed Notre Dame and 10-seed Indiana, with Notre Dame favored to win. Should Georgia advance, their semifinal opponent in the Cotton Bowl could be 3-seed Boise State, 6-seed Penn State, or 11-seed SMU, though Penn State is considered the most likely challenger.
