Georgia football wide receiver Colbie Young will not be available for the upcoming College Football Playoff game. Although many had hoped his legal case would conclude on Tuesday, it remains unresolved.
Young was charged with battery and assault on an unborn child following his October 8 arrest. In early November, the woman involved in the case requested the charges be dropped, and Young resumed practicing with Georgia, which raised hopes for his return to the field. However, despite the request, the charges were not dropped, and Young pled not guilty to the charges on Tuesday.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May, although his lawyer has requested it be moved to January, a decision that is still pending.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Young will play for Georgia this season. Had the charges been dropped, he could have participated in the upcoming College Football Playoff game at the Sugar Bowl. However, with the legal proceedings still ongoing, Young’s return to the field this season appears off the table.
Ultimately, the resolution of this legal matter is the top priority. While Young’s presence would have been valuable to Georgia’s receiving corps, the hope is that he can resolve this case and return to the team next season. It would be a great moment to see him back on the field at Sanford Stadium in the fall.
