The Florida State Seminoles opened ACC play with a tough 84-74 overtime loss to NC State on Saturday, marking their second consecutive defeat and bringing their season record to 7-3.
FSU was led by Jamir Watkins, who scored 24 points, and Malique Ewin, who added 23 points. Ewin also contributed nine rebounds and two blocks before fouling out late in the game, while Watkins finished with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Following the loss, the Seminoles saw a decline in several key advanced metrics. They dropped to No. 56 in the KenPom Rankings, with their offense now ranked No. 101 and their defense at No. 49.
FSU also slipped in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, falling to No. 68. The BPI now projects the Seminoles to finish the season with an 18.5-12.5 record overall and 9.7-10.7 in conference play, giving them less than a 0.1% chance of winning the ACC.
Florida State will have a week off before their next game on December 14th against Tulane in the AutoNation Orange Bowl Classic. The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. ET at Amaret Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, and will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
