Trent Noah made the most of his extended playing time in Kentucky’s 78-67 win over Colgate on Wednesday. The freshman wing, a native of Harlan, KY, saw a season-high 11 minutes on the court due to injuries to key guards. Despite the limited stats—three points on 1-of-2 shooting from three, one rebound, and one assist—Noah had a solid impact. He played good defense, didn’t commit any turnovers, and finished with a +10 plus/minus, ranking third on the team. While fellow Kentucky native Travis Perry struggled, Noah’s performance stood out.
Coach Mark Pope praised both Noah and Perry for their contributions, noting that their development would be a work in progress. Pope highlighted Noah’s composure, especially in a moment where he confidently took and made a three-pointer, adding energy to the game. “That’s how I know he’s gonna be a big-time player,” Pope said, recalling Noah’s key three-pointer that helped spark a 12-0 run for Kentucky, which was critical in securing the win.
Noah’s three-pointer, coming with just over 14 minutes left, was part of a four-in-a-row barrage from Kentucky, giving the team a crucial lead. Pope was particularly pleased with Noah’s work ethic, noting how he had been impressing in practice and was always focused on improving. Though Noah didn’t play much in the first half, he came in with Kentucky down by one and left with them up by 14, a 15-point swing during his time on the court.
While Noah may not have a consistent role in the rotation once conference play begins, his performance against Colgate was a positive sign for the future of the program. Teammates, including Koby Brea, praised his confidence and composure, calling it a significant moment in his early college career.
