Florida State’s football program is in the midst of a major offseason overhaul, with new coaching staff additions and a focus on rebuilding after a dismal 2-10 record in 2024. As part of the rebuilding effort, Florida State has been active in the transfer portal, securing commitments from quarterback Thomas Castellanos, tight end Markeston Douglas, and linebacker Stefon Thompson. However, the Seminoles aren’t stopping there.
One of the latest transfer targets that has caught Florida State’s attention is UCF tight end Randy Pittman. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound sophomore, who previously committed to Florida State before choosing UCF, has been a reliable receiving target for the Knights, totaling 51 receptions for 631 yards and three touchdowns over two seasons. Now, Pittman is on a visit to Florida State, and the Seminoles are hoping to add him to their ranks.
So, does adding Pittman make sense for Florida State?
Absolutely. The Seminoles are looking to strengthen their tight end depth, especially after a season that saw inconsistent play from the position. While Landen Thomas and Amaree Williams are already on the roster, Williams is expected to switch to defensive end, leaving a potential void at tight end. Florida State also has a four-star signee in Chase Loftin, but the addition of Pittman could provide immediate impact.
Pittman’s versatility as a hybrid tight end/receiver makes him a potentially dangerous mismatch for opposing defenses. His ability to stretch the field and create mismatches against linebackers and safeties could be exactly what the Seminoles need to bolster their offense. With a new offensive approach under the guidance of Gus Malzahn, who has experience with utilizing tight ends in an up-tempo, spread offense, Pittman could thrive in this system.
