As Georgia football gears up for their upcoming College Football Playoff matchup, there’s an interesting twist to look forward to—several former Bulldogs will be competing in the playoffs with their new teams. These players, once part of Georgia’s dominant roster, have found success elsewhere, and could even cross paths with their old squad in the postseason.
Former Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff
A.J. Harris and Jalen Kimber – Penn State Penn State’s defense boasts two familiar faces in former Georgia corners A.J. Harris and Jalen Kimber. Harris, who transferred after last season, had a standout year with 39 tackles, one interception, and four pass deflections. Kimber, who transferred to Penn State from Florida, also made an impact, recording 26 tackles and two pass deflections. If Georgia and Penn State both advance, the two teams could meet in the semifinals, giving the Bulldogs a chance to face off against these former teammates.
Jonathan Jefferson – SMU SMU’s defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson, who made the jump from Georgia to SMU, has also made his mark this season, recording a career-high 14 tackles. While he’s not as active in the SMU lineup, there’s still the potential for Georgia to meet up with Jefferson if they progress to the semifinals.
Bill Norton – Texas Finally, Texas defensive lineman Bill Norton, who played for Georgia from 2019-2022, has made his mark at Texas with 11 tackles in his first season with the Longhorns. While it’s less likely that Georgia will meet Texas again (barring a National Championship game), the thought of playing the Longhorns for a third time could be something Georgia fans prefer to avoid.
While Georgia won’t face any of these former players in their quarterfinal matchup, the possibility of seeing them in the playoffs down the road adds an intriguing layer to the postseason action. For now, all eyes are on Kirby Smart’s squad as they prepare for their first playoff game.
