Auburn football has bolstered its defense with the addition of former Miami (OH) cornerback Raion Strader, marking the Tigers’ fifth commitment from the NCAA transfer portal. Strader, widely regarded as one of the top transfer cornerbacks available, officially committed to Auburn after a visit that left a lasting impression.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Strader, who has two years of eligibility remaining, previously stood out as a freshman and sophomore at Miami (OH). In his first year, he posted 57 tackles, 13 pass deflections, one interception, and 1.5 sacks. As a sophomore in 2024, Strader continued to shine with 53 tackles, 19 pass deflections, and two interceptions, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier defensive back.
Strader’s decision to join Auburn was influenced by his strong connection with Auburn cornerbacks coach Wesley “Crime” McGriff. During his visit, Strader appreciated McGriff’s personal approach and the family-like atmosphere he found within the program. “Coach Crime really is one-of-one… Great coach, real, you know, technical guy. I really like him,” Strader said, expressing his excitement about the opportunity to develop under McGriff’s guidance.
The cornerback’s commitment comes at a critical time for the Tigers as they look to strengthen their defense. Strader’s skillset and experience make him a valuable addition to Auburn’s defensive backfield, and he could be a key factor in the team’s success in 2025.
With Strader on board, Auburn continues to make waves in the transfer portal, signaling their intent to compete at the highest level in the SEC next season.
