Auburn football’s search for talent in the transfer portal continues to pay off as the Tigers have secured another key addition for the 2025 season. On Monday night, former USC offensive tackle Mason Murphy announced his commitment to Auburn, becoming the second offensive lineman to join the program through the portal this offseason.
The Tigers’ offensive line has been a major area of focus for head coach Hugh Freeze, who is working to fortify his squad for the upcoming season. Murphy, ranked as the #5 offensive tackle in the transfer portal, will bring valuable experience and depth to the line. A native of San Juan Capistrano, California, Murphy was a 3-star recruit in the 2021 class and joined USC after high school. Though he redshirted as a freshman, he quickly became a key contributor for the Trojans, earning a starting spot in 2024 and leading the team in snaps.
Murphy’s commitment comes on the heels of Auburn’s earlier pickup of former Virginia Tech left tackle Xavier Chaplin, providing a much-needed boost to the Tigers’ offensive front. With Izavion “Too Tall” Miller out of eligibility and uncertainty surrounding Jeremiah Wright’s return, Auburn will likely continue to search for additional offensive linemen, potentially adding at least two more to the mix.
Murphy’s arrival is part of Auburn’s broader effort to strengthen its roster, as he becomes the eighth player to join the team through the transfer portal. Other notable additions include former Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold, former UConn RB Durell Robinson, former Oklahoma State punter Hudson Kaak, and several others.
In addition to bolstering the offensive line, Auburn is also targeting positions like tight end, with former Kentucky TE Khamari Anderson, former Elon TE Cody Hardy, and former Maryland TE Preston Howard all on the radar. As the Tigers continue to address their roster needs, the 2025 season is shaping up to be a critical year for the program’s growth and success.
