Auburn football has strengthened its defense with a key addition from the transfer portal. Former Georgia Tech safety Taye Seymore has officially committed to the Tigers, bringing his playmaking ability to the Plains. Seymore’s decision comes after a successful visit to Auburn over the weekend, where he spent time with key members of the coaching staff, including head coach Hugh Freeze and co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly. Seymore was impressed with the program’s family-like atmosphere, something he felt was crucial in his decision-making process.
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Seymore had a standout sophomore season with Georgia Tech, registering 49 total tackles and two pass breakups. His strong performance made him one of the more sought-after defensive players in the transfer portal. Auburn’s defensive staff, led by Kelly and director of recruiting research and strategy Kenyatta Watson, made sure to make Seymore feel at home. Interestingly, Watson was the one who initially recruited Seymore to Georgia Tech, adding a personal touch to the Tigers’ recruitment pitch.
Seymore, who was part of Georgia Tech’s 2023 recruiting class, had been with the Yellow Jackets for two seasons before entering the portal. He had a breakout year in 2024, contributing significantly to the defense. After considering options, Seymore chose Auburn over offers from other programs, including Indiana and Michigan State.
The addition of Seymore is a huge win for Auburn, which is looking to bolster its defense ahead of the 2025 season. He is the sixth transfer portal commit for Auburn, and his experience and skill set will help fortify the Tigers’ secondary. With Seymore’s commitment, Auburn’s defense is poised for an exciting season ahead.
