As Georgia football gears up for their College Football Playoff quarterfinal game in the Sugar Bowl, one major question has been answered: Gunner Stockton will be starting as quarterback in place of the injured Carson Beck.
After Beck’s injury in the first half of the SEC Championship game against Texas, his status for the CFP has remained uncertain. It’s now clear that Georgia will rely on Stockton to lead them through the postseason.
David Pollack, former Georgia defensive lineman and football analyst, is confident that Stockton is more than ready for the challenge. In a recent post, Pollack shared his admiration for Stockton’s fiery leadership and his ability to energize the team.
“I’m not saying Carson Beck isn’t good, but Carson is a flatliner,” Pollack said. “He’s not emotional. When my quarterback gets juiced up, I love it. I rally behind it.”
Pollack cited a pivotal moment in the SEC Championship when Stockton ran over a Texas defender on his first drive of the second half. While the play only gained a few yards, it was Stockton’s energy and fearless style that ignited the Georgia sideline and provided a spark for the team.
“Gunner running over that guy got the sideline jumping up and down, it infused the team. That’s exactly what we needed,” Pollack added.
As Stockton prepares to take the reins for Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, Pollack believes his emotional playstyle will continue to inspire the Bulldogs. With the team feeding off Stockton’s enthusiasm and grit, Georgia fans have every reason to rally behind their new starting quarterback.
