In a groundbreaking move, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell has agreed to contribute $4.5 million of his salary this season back to the university as part of a restructured contract, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.
This significant contribution is part of the school’s new “Vision of Excellence” campaign, designed to raise funds in preparation for the upcoming era of athlete revenue sharing. Beginning July 1, 2025, the new House settlement agreement will allow Division I schools to share at least $20.5 million annually with their athletes.
Norvell’s decision to redirect a portion of his salary is a clear sign of his commitment to Florida State’s athletes and the future of college sports. With his new contract, which nearly doubles his salary to $9.9 million, Norvell is set to earn almost $11 million annually by the end of his contract in 2031.
This move follows a similar gesture by LSU’s Brian Kelly, who announced he would match donations to LSU’s collective up to $1 million.
In addition to this generous salary contribution, Norvell has been focused on resetting Florida State’s program after a disappointing 2-10 season, just one year removed from an ACC title. The Seminoles have bolstered their offensive staff with the hiring of UCF head coach Gus Malzahn as their new offensive coordinator.
“I’m extremely excited to have Gus Malzahn join our staff at Florida State,” Norvell said in his statement. “His innovative offensive mind and proven track record will elevate the Florida State offense back to elite status.”
This move, along with his ongoing commitment to Florida State’s athletes, demonstrates Norvell’s deep dedication to both his team and the future of college football at FSU.
