Lamont Butler’s sensational performance in Kentucky’s 93-85 victory over Louisville has earned him SEC Co-Player of the Week honors. The Southeastern Conference announced on Monday that Butler, alongside Auburn’s Johni Broome, shared the prestigious accolade following his career-high 33-point outing on Saturday.
Butler’s flawless shooting display was the highlight of the game, as he went an impeccable 10-for-10 from the field, including a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point range. The senior guard also contributed six assists and three rebounds in 32 minutes, leading the Wildcats to a dominant win. Despite an off-night from the free-throw line (7-for-12), Butler’s performance was nothing short of historic.
In the game, Butler became the only Division I player since 1996-97 to score at least 33 points, make every field goal attempt, and record six or more assists in a single game. The performance earned him MVP honors for the game, further solidifying his reputation as a key player for Kentucky this season.
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope couldn’t contain his admiration for Butler’s effort. “Unbelievable credit to him. My goodness, what an incredible—Lamont Butler just gave us one of the all-time greatest performances in the history of his super special game,” Pope said postgame. “The numbers back it up. The way he came into it backs it up… I’m so proud of him.”
Butler joins teammate Andrew Carr as one of two Wildcats to win SEC Player of the Week honors this season. Carr previously earned the recognition after a standout performance in Kentucky’s win over Duke.
In addition to Butler’s recognition, Arkansas point guard Boogie Fland, a former Kentucky commit, was named SEC Freshman of the Week. Fland averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 3.0 rebounds over two wins for the Razorbacks.
With Butler leading the charge, Kentucky looks poised for an exciting season ahead, and fans are eager to see if more accolades follow this remarkable week.
