It was a battle of attrition, and the South Carolina Gamecocks emerged victorious in an electrifying 91-88 overtime win against the Clemson Tigers on Monday night. The game was physical, intense, and chippy, just the way fans expect from a rivalry matchup between two talented teams.
The Tigers, who had a rough time with foul trouble, saw four players disqualified — three fouled out and Dillon Hunter was ejected for a questionable play. South Carolina wasn’t without its own issues, as two of their players fouled out during the overtime period.
With Clemson trailing by seven points in the final 90 seconds of regulation, Chase Hunter hit back-to-back three-pointers, pulling the Tigers within one. After a foul on USC’s Jacobi Wright, Clemson had a chance to take the lead but couldn’t capitalize. Hunter’s clutch desperation three with just .3 seconds left sent the game into overtime, where the drama continued.
In overtime, Clemson once again found itself down by three with 3.4 seconds remaining. Despite Hunter’s impressive 27-point performance — which included no points in the first half — he couldn’t deliver a second game-winner, and South Carolina held on for the victory.
Now, Clemson turns its focus to ACC play, as they prepare to face Wake Forest on Saturday, December 21, at 2:00 PM.
