The Kentucky Wildcats’ recruiting momentum continues as they land former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver JJ Hester. On December 19, 2024, Hester officially announced his commitment to Kentucky, becoming the sixth transfer addition of the offseason. The Wildcats, who are in the midst of a rebuild following a challenging season, have been bolstering their roster with key pieces, particularly to improve the offensive line and skill positions.
Hester, a 6-foot-4, 202-pound wideout, was a 4-star recruit out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the class of 2020. Initially committed to Missouri, he played under current Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan, who now reunites with Hester in Lexington. While Hester’s impact at Oklahoma was somewhat limited—posting just 14 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown in 2024—he brings vital experience and size to Kentucky’s receiving corps.
Kentucky had been in search of a physical presence to replace Dane Key on the outside, and Hester fits the bill perfectly. His addition provides a much-needed weapon in the Wildcats’ passing game, especially with a focus on adding more dynamic playmakers. Hester’s 2024 season with the Sooners showed flashes of potential, and his reunion with Hamdan could be a pivotal factor in unlocking his full capabilities.
As Kentucky continues to refine its roster, all eyes will now shift toward the next possible commitment at quarterback, with former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada among the rumored targets. With the wide receiver position now strengthened, the Wildcats look poised for an exciting 2025 campaign under head coach Mark Stoops.
