In a heartwarming turn of events, the Arizona Cardinals have made a dream come true for brothers Zay and Vi Jones, who are now teammates in the NFL. After being waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Vi Jones was quickly claimed off waivers by the Cardinals, joining his older brother, Zay, on the Arizona roster.
For Vi, the news came after a tough weekend. He was informed that he would be released from the Buccaneers on Saturday, leaving him uncertain about his future in the league. But just two days later, his agent delivered life-changing news — the Cardinals had claimed him. “I was ecstatic,” Zay said, recalling the moment he received a text from Vi. “I texted him in all caps, ‘BRO,'” Vi shared.
Though their professional journeys have been quite different, the Jones brothers are now united on the same team. Zay, a seasoned wide receiver since 2017, has established himself as a reliable presence in the NFL, while Vi, who entered the league as an undrafted rookie with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022, has spent much of this season on the Buccaneers’ practice squad.
The brothers’ excitement is palpable. “It felt like we were going to school,” Zay said, reflecting on their first day driving into work together. “To play with my older brother, Cayleb, in high school was special, but this feels surreal.”
While Zay has seen regular action this season, Vi’s role with the team in the immediate future remains uncertain. However, the pair’s bond as family and teammates is something they will cherish, regardless of how much playing time they get together.
“Even though things are always changing in the NFL, to have this moment with my brother is something we’ll never forget,” Zay said. As for Vi, he’s already thinking about the future. “The Cardinals need them Jones Boys,” he said, hinting at the possibility of both brothers sticking with the team to help lead the charge in 2025.
